October is Understanding Credit Month.
The Jump$tart Coalition promotes 12 key principles linked to the National Standards in K-12 Personal Finance Education. Credit can be a flexible and convenient way to make purchases over time but must be used responsibly to avoid fees and negative credit reports.
Tips for strong credit include:
- 1. Pay on Time: know due dates and pay on time or early.
- 2. Don’t Go Over: Keep track of limits and avoid spending more than you can afford.
- 3. Know Your History: Your credit history is your credit report and can be checked regularly for free.
